Clock Out Calculator
Enter when you started, how long you need to work, and any unpaid break time. The calculator shows the exact time you can leave, handles overnight shifts automatically, and can also calculate your finish time when your shift is already in progress.

A clock out calculator finds the time your shift should end. Enter your clock-in time, the amount of paid work you need to complete, and any unpaid lunch or break time that extends your day. The result is the time you can clock out.
This tool is designed for one clear question: what time can I leave work? If you instead know your start and end times and want to calculate how long you worked, use the Work Hours Calculator.
Clock out time formula
For example, if you clock in at 9:00 AM, need 8 hours of paid work, and take a 30-minute unpaid lunch, your total shift span is 8 hours 30 minutes. Your calculated clock-out time is 5:30 PM.
How to use the Clock Out Calculator
- Enter the time you clocked in.
- Enter the number of paid hours and minutes you need to work.
- Add your unpaid lunch or break time.
- Add any additional unpaid breaks if necessary.
- Read your exact clock-out time in 12-hour or 24-hour format.
If your shift is already underway, choose I already worked some hours. Enter the current time, your target hours, how much paid work you have already completed, and any unpaid break still remaining. The calculator then works from the time left rather than restarting the full shift.
Clock out time with a lunch break
An unpaid lunch extends the amount of clock time needed to complete a paid-work target. If your goal is 8 paid hours and you take 30 unpaid minutes, you normally need a total span of 8 hours 30 minutes between your counted start and finish.
| Clock in | Paid work | Unpaid break | Clock out |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8:00 AM | 8h | 30m | 4:30 PM |
| 8:30 AM | 8h | 30m | 5:00 PM |
| 9:00 AM | 8h | 30m | 5:30 PM |
| 9:00 AM | 8h | 60m | 6:00 PM |
Paid vs. unpaid breaks
The arithmetic depends on whether a break counts as paid work. A paid break is normally already part of the paid-work target, so you would not add it again. An unpaid break does not count toward the paid-work target, so it extends the finish time.
What if the shift ends after midnight?
Overnight results are handled automatically. If the start time plus required work and unpaid breaks passes midnight, the calculator carries the result into the next day and labels it clearly.
Example: start at 10:00 PM, work 8 paid hours, and take a 30-minute unpaid break. The clock-out time is 6:30 AM the next day.
What if I have already worked part of my shift?
You do not need to reconstruct the entire day. Switch to the second mode and enter how much paid work you have already completed. The calculator subtracts that amount from your target, adds any unpaid break you still need to take, and adds the remaining duration to the reference time.
If you have already reached or exceeded your target, the remaining paid-work amount is treated as zero. Any unpaid break you explicitly say is still to be taken is still included in the calculation.
Optional earliest counted start
Some workplaces use a scheduling or flex-time rule where time before a particular start is not counted for the schedule calculation. The optional setting lets you model that situation by using the later of the actual clock-in time and the earliest counted start.
This setting is only a planning feature. It does not determine whether time actually worked must be recorded or paid.

Frequently asked questions
What time can I leave if I start at 9:00 AM and work 8 hours?
With no unpaid break, the calculated clock-out time is 5:00 PM. With a 30-minute unpaid lunch, it is 5:30 PM.
What time can I leave if I start at 8:30 AM and take a 30-minute lunch?
If you need 8 paid hours and the 30-minute lunch is unpaid, the calculated clock-out time is 5:00 PM.
Do I add my lunch break to my work hours?
Add the lunch duration to the end-time calculation only when it is unpaid and does not count toward your paid-work target. Paid breaks normally should not be added again.
Can the calculator handle an overnight shift?
Yes. If the calculated finish passes midnight, the result automatically shows that the clock-out time is on the next day.
Can I use 24-hour time?
Yes. Use the 12-hour or 24-hour result toggle. The calculator also always shows a 24-hour result in the summary.
What if I have already worked several hours today?
Choose the second calculation mode, enter the current time, target work time, hours already worked, and any unpaid break still remaining. The calculator returns your new finish time.
Does this calculator determine whether I am entitled to overtime or paid breaks?
No. It performs time arithmetic using the values you enter. Employment rules vary, so check the rules that apply to your workplace and location.
